It is now common for students to want to skip the classroom lecture and head for the shop area to build something you know anything. This process could not  and would not work because of their lack of knowledge.

The Importance of Mathematics to Construction

Imagine you building your first home or making your first set of cabinets without ever having to know how to read a tape measure. "Well, you've over slept and need to be wakened".  Just the very thought of building or making anything requires that you completely understand how to properly read a standard tape measure which includes a combination of whole numbers, fractions,decimals and equivalents.

Construction and Education

Do you think most top construction job positions such as superintendents, project managers and job foremen's are given or earned? And if those who have earned the title; did they qualify by the number of years served in the trade (experience) or from the few semesters trained in the class room (certification)?

Did you know that a qualified carpenter can only be licensed as a general contractor? Unlike electricians or plumbers who after passing an exam becomes licensed under their trade name. Carpenters share the general contractor's title with anyone who passes the exam. "Why?"
